Spinach Dal Recipe

Spinach is the best green leafy vegetable, it is rich in various vitamins and minerals. It is advised by nutritionists that you should spinach for better health. People also call it palak in hindi. You can make various recipes with palak and dal palak is the one that I like the most. It is a classy combination of dal and spinach/palak with various spices that makes the dish so tasty. You can serve this with rice or chapatti.

Ingredients for Moong Dal with Spinach Recipe:

  • Moong dal (1 cup with skin)
  • Chopped spinach(2 cup)
  • Shredded ginger(1 teaspoon)
  • Turmeric powder(1/2 teaspoon)
  • Salt (according to taste)
  • Water(4 cups)
  • Garam masala(1/4 teaspoon)
  • Lemon juice (according to your taste)
  • Ghee or clarified butter or oil(2 tablespoon)
  • Cumin seed (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Pinch of asafetida
  • Red chilies(4 whole)

Spinach Moong Dal Recipe:

  • Wash dal with cold water and soak it for half an hour.
  • Take a pressure cooker, put dal, spinach, ginger, turmeric, salt and water and close the lid for 3 whistles to come. It is easier to cook with pressure cooker but I prefer to boil spinach in a pan without cover. If you will cook spinach with cover you will simply lose the green color of spinach. Cook in a medium high flame till the dal is cooked.
  • All steam should be released from cooker before you open the pressure cooker.
  • Take a small pan add ghee or oil when oil gets hot, add cumin seed wait until cumin seed cracks then add asafetida and whole red chili.
  • Stir it for two three seconds now add the boil dal and spinach to this seasoning.
  • Now time to add lemon juice and garam masala.

Now the spinach dal is ready to eat. You can serve this with rice, roti, paratha or naan. I hope you will enjoy the food and live me some comments here.
